My baby girl Charm always seems to get mites every few months, depends on the weather I think.
Noticed today shes missing a little hair on her bum, its a bit scaly/scaby and shes losing a little bit of fur :/
Hmmm i got some mite spray but anyone got other tips, other then give the cage a massive clean, do all the other pigs as well?
Thanks xx

What spray are you using? And what kind of cage is it? wooden or plastic? What bedding do you use?

A spray i got from the pet shop for guineapigs. the cage is double story wooden hutch, we use paper shreddings and newspaper

I feared you'd say wooden! The mites may well be within the wood of the hutch which is why you keep getting reinfestations :{ It may well be a case of needing a new hutch :...

Is the spray working? I'm personally skeptical of anything you can buy over the counter for treating such things, but if it works, then it works I guess. I'd be inclined to pop to your vet and get some Xeno or similar, as you can be confident that that will sort you out.

We jusst bought a new wooden cage but they are still living in the old one for now.
The spray has worked in the past nd if it got any worse we always took them to the vet

Do you have a plastic indoor cage, or someone you could borrow one off? Using the spray, in conjunction with anything from the vet you might need, and washing the plastic cage out daily should get on top of the mites, then when you're sure they're 100% clear, can move them into the new wooden one without fear of spreading the mites to that environment
