Signs Of Drooling

Should we wait for the original appointed date for his teeth trimming or should we rebook sooner?

Hello.
One of my boars started drooling this morning. Presumably, it started during the night and we've had him checked by specialists about a week ago. They inspected his mouth and told us to book an appointment for teeth trimming, which we did. It's booked a week and a half from now.

He's been on antibiotics for about four weeks now already due to pneumonia. And we didn't know if it was a good idea to trim his teeth while he was already sick. The URI is almost entirely gone now, from what we can hear in the family, but we're not vets. He'll have a check up in two days to see how he's doing.

My question is this:
Should we try to get an appointment for trimming his teeth that is sooner, or should we just wait 1 and a half week for the procedure? How sever is the condition?

I know weight loss plays a major part and he'a already fairly underweight. About 900g, age approx. 3 years.

I think you need to call your vet tomorrow (assuming they aren’t open today, if they are, then call them today) and let it be for your vet to make the decision on whether his chest is well enough for him to undergo a dental procedure sooner rather than waiting. Drooling means he probably isn’t able to swallow properly so things with the dental issue may be progressing now so having that dealt with is obviously important.

Are you weighing him daily and syringe feeding him?

My mistake. I thought mother said we'd take him to the vet for a checkup in about 2 days, but I must've missheard her. The only checkup we have booked is the one 1 week and a half from now.

Yes, we've been syringe feeding him ever since he started to lose weight about three weeks ago. Weighing him daily as well. He's going up and down in weight. She'll call tomorrow and we'll see what happens, but personally I would just put him out of his misery. He's been holding on for so long now. He deserves rest.

Then I would definitely ring the vet for advice today/tomorrow. It needs to be their decision as to whether waiting is wise.

As long as weight fluctuations are within normal daily limits and that he is being fed enough so that his weight isn’t a consistent downward trend.

You need to be guided by your vet, if they are confident they can help him and as long as he has the fight to go on then it doesn’t have to be his time.

Just wanted to post a quick update here since, sadly, our boar passed away this evening. We did everything we could and at least we are relieved that he's no longer suffering and can find some peace. I don't know if you can archive a thread, but this is the last update to it. Thank you for the good advice and support!
