Hi all :)

I've had my 2 boars almost a month now, i absolutely love them but how do I know they are happy/settling in?

They'll take food from our hands and poke their noses out their hidey to sniff us. I know that's all good. How about laptime? How does a happy guinea pig behave when being held? Both have started to move around during laptime, is that a good sign? Or are the trying to escape? (We're still building up cuddle time, 15 minutes max)

Is there any other 'signs' i should be looking out for?

Thanks

Aw thank you Wiebke, i thought I had seen a thread like that somewhere. I'll have a read :)

The moving around on laps is the next step up from the initial stillness of fear so they are really starting to feel comfortable with you :) Cookie takes this to a whole new level and wanders off :))

Taking food from your hands is a great sign too, sounds like you are doing really well. Any chance of pigtures?

Thanks :) Yeah, read that a few times already - still can't do it! I managed an avatar though *woohoo*

Pigs are going to show comfort/happiness differently. Sundae always 'talks' when you pat her... she will whistle and burble and make happy noises if you stroke her back and nose. She stops 'talking' if we stop patting her! Linney is quieter and will generally turn around in circles to find a comfortable spot on our knee and then curl up and drowse with her eyes half-shut.

wicca trys to watch tv, and makes sure you know when she doesnt get to. turtle trys to wander off and explore. but they both snuggle for cuddles (even if turtle does it for less then a minute) and makes happy noises when scratched.
when we got wicca, she wouldnt move, at all, put her down somewhere come back hours later, hadent moved. she moves and wheeks and everything now

Sometimes very happy guinea pigs 'popcorn' (jump up into the air suddenly) and run around fast. Not doing that doesn't mean they aren't happy though. Also lying down in a stretched out way (as opposed to sitting up the whole time) is a good sign.
