I just don't understand piggy logic sometimes. Patchy and Coco have hated the latest crop of Burgess timothy hay with birch bark I bought six bags of because they loved the previous lot I bought which was short strand and have literally wasted two of the six bags. It's been a few months since they have had any of the Burgess hay and now that they have a better palate for hay I decided to try again a couple of weeks back and they still hated it but today I put a handful in their bowl and walked away knowing they wouldn't touch it but they have literally been out eating it all afternoon like it's the best hay ever and I've just had to top up their bowl and hay bag (not with the Burgess, didn't want to push it lol) because they have eaten everything in their cage. I swear they have spent all of five minutes in their hidey's all afternoon and the rest eating. I don't know whats got into them today but they are hungry little piggies as they are now devouring their evening pellets and more hay.

That's guinea pigs for you. I'm sure they are difficult on purpose to keep us on our toes. I spent ages in the shop looking for the greenest bag of hay I could find. My usual shop was closed and as we were almost out of hay I went somewhere else to make sure we didn't run out, it was brown, dusty and revolting looking when I took it out the bag. I lined their litter trays with it to use it up and they ate it like it was the best hay ever! Now I buy hay on line to save me time, I'm obviously a useless hay choser!
Perhaps your girls are about to do a growth spurt, they will if they keep eating like that anyway.:))

We have ugly hay here in Australia but Patchy and Coco seem to love it so I guess it can't be too bad. I bet if I give them some more of the Burgess today they won't eat it, would be nice if they ate it so I could get rid of the three other bags of it I have going to waste. I feel like every time I looked at them yesterday their tummies looked fatter and fatter lol. I thought about a growth spurt but I thought they had reached their adult weight already but I might be wrong.
