I've read pigs can't have mowed grass. Why is this?

The reason I ask is, it makes me wonder about putting them in the run a day or two after the grass has been mowed. Is this bad as well? Can nibbling on the tops of the leftover grass cause a problem? We so rarely get good weather that mowing and piggie outdoor time usually follow on pretty closely. :red

I think it's because mowed grass ferments very very quickly. Often if you feel mowed grass just a few hours after it's been cut its warm and wet, which can cause bloat/colic. This is what I've always been told regarding horses, so I guess the same principle applies.

I put my girls out after the grass has been mowed, so long as any mowed grass has been raked up.

You could always leave a long patch when you mow - I'm sure they'd thank you :))

I'd love to... unfortunately when we leave a long bit, the neighbourhood cats tend to do their business in it. >.<

Those both make sense, I just wondered if it was some kind of sharp-edged choking hazard that might result in the trimmed bits still being dangerous... but I guess it's OK as long as we haven't put anything on the blades recently.

Just cut them a huge pile with scissors and put it in their cage before you mow the lawn. x

We don't have a garden so I go to the back of our house where there is a patch and get me scissors and bag, people must think I'm a loon or something! Suppose at least the piggies are happy I don't mind :)
