Senior Guinea Pig
It's been such a quick 4 years, it feels like only yesterday we made the 260 mile round trip to collect Silver and his brother, as soon as I saw them I knew they needed somewhere that had the ability to provide the care they needed. There was no question about heading down to collect them!
Silver was always the quieter of the pair, when he wasn't zooming in circles he was usually asleep. Which as him and Forrest grew, was one of the few things they ever bickered about, Forrest wanted to play while Silver needed extra sleep and did not take being woken up kindly!
Poor Silver arrived absolutely covered in bite wounds from the other males in the hutch he was crammed in with. Along with his fear of bowls, it was obvious he had at one point stumbled into the large dog bowl of food and become trapped and had been attacked, unable to escape.
Luckily over time, he grew to realise bowls brought only good things in his new home, after being treated to a massive range of types of food he could finally eat, he went from an incredibly thin little baby to quite a chunky young man.
He was always quite a mummy's boy, and I adored him right back. Unfortunately it became clear the cocktail of meds he was on was no longer enough, and early Saturday morning his heart began to struggle, passing away a few hours later. It was always the plan to have the remaining brother put to sleep after the first passed away as they were so incredibly closely bonded, but Silver showed such a will to go on after Forrest passed away in spite of his grief that I decided to give him a chance. I wasn't expecting him to last long in all honesty but to have made it 8 months longer exceeded all expectations.
There has been a massive hole left behind these 2 boys, and I can't really find the words to explain Silvers loss but it didn't feel right not making him a post here so I hope this has done him justice. Sleep well Silver.
