Our boar Simon is just over a year old. Since we brought him and his buddy Joe both at about 12 weeks he has always had a sunken pea eye and a larger, cloudy eye in which he is blind. Over time, it had been getting worse and eventually I thought enough was enough and he needed a vet, even though it doesn't bother him at all.
Now, I'm studying with the BAR as an RHA and in the coursework section about eyes (I had a good read of this bit!) it mentions a possible abscess, pus or teeth issues as some ideas for a cause. Si has just had his teeth trimmed, and although his left molars were a little sharp there is no redness or marks on the inside of his mouth.
I mentioned the pus and abscess ideas to our vet (who is always great with my boar-kids) and she was thinking the same, but without taking out his eye she couldn't really tell. He has no other health problems and is a happy little chap, eating and drinking well. In the end we decided to leave the eye unless he began to catch it or bump it, which he hasn't yet.
I just wanted to show some images and see if anyone else's piggies have quite such a severe bulging eye? I trust our vet, and as I say it doesn't bother Simmy at all. The pic isn't the best as you can't see quite how much it really sticks out, and how cloudy it is >.< (P.s. my sister is behind him picking up his mess XD)

Simon definitely needs to see a preferably piggy savvy vet as promptly as you can get an appointment. There can be a retrobulbar abscess behind it. An x-ray may bring more light into what is actually going on. The longer you wait, the less chances you have to save that eye. The best antiobitc when it comes to abscesses is Zithromax.

Thanks Wiebke! Our vet is really lovely and loves the boys, but I don't think she is specifically trained in pigs so it may be best to get him an appointment with a pig-savvy one just to be safe, as you say :)

Please have him seen as soon as you can. A bulging eye is not something that you can take lightly.
 
Of course I will! I meant to be safe, as in a second opinion, too. I do like our vet but I don't know if she really knows a lot about them. I don't know if that came across in my post, but I wouldn't ever take his care lightly :(

You can always ask your own vet whether she can recommend a vet to deal with the eye and any potential issues.

I had a look at the link you posted, the vet finder one and spoke to Rogers, Brock and Barker in Cheadle! They're our closest Guinea savvy vet it seems and the guy was really nice on the phone :) Si is off to see him tomorrow for a second opinion, bless him :)
 
An update... Little Simmy passed away the morning following his surgery :( Wish I'd done something different :( But then isn't hindsight a wonderful thing!
 
I'm so sorry, I am going through a very similar issue with my Tim at the moment.
 
Thank you, his eye was removed yesterday and it is a matter of waiting to see if the antibiotics can clear it or not and if he develops any further dental issues.
 
I will do (or Debbie can as he is staying with her), thank you.
