Hello, i recently just got a new baby boar called Kev to keep my Earnie company as his life long companion passed away 💔 sadly yesterday Earnie had also passed away 💔 so now Kev is left on his own, he’s really confused don’t know where his friend is 💔 although I love him dearly I won’t ever be a strong enough companion than what an actual Guinea pig is, I’m looking for advice on wether to get a baby pig or adult pig and femal or male to keep him company? Xx

I am so sorry for your losses.

The key factor in finding a new friend is character compatibility, age is not entirely relevant. Two piggies have to like each other to form a successful long term bond and the only way to be completely sure is for a piggy to be able to choose their own friend via boar dating at a rescue centre. Current restrictions mean that this isn’t possible at present but having your name down in a rescue centre waiting list for bonding would be the place to start. However, you are also dealing with a young piggy whose learning and interaction with another piggy is essential at such an important stage of his life. Rescuing is always the preferred option but should you choose to buy a new piggy then you must always have a plan b in place in case of failure either in the immediate or longer term (for example, bonding two boars in their teens can be trickier as they are both experiencing the same hormonal levels and spikes)

You of course would not be able to give him a female friend, unless and until Kev is neutered, and old enough to be neutered (4-6 months of age depending on the vetJ. He would then need to have a six week wait after neutering to ensure he is infertile before being allowed any access to a female.

keeping piggies alongside each other in separate cages until such time as bonding can be done allows for some social interaction.

What a beautiful piggy ❤️.

So sorry to hear of Earnie's passing 😟

So sorry you have lost your other little piggies x
I think you are near two very good rescues that are on our recommended list, good luck and let us know how you get on
boar dating is the best way for him to find a new friend Rescue Locator

I have a boar that needs a buddy too. Wish we lived closer so they could date! My boars relationship soured and they can't be together anymore. :( While I'm waiting for rescues to open back up I have my boars in side by side cages. This cuts into their space so we try to do an hour of outside time most every day. And I give one pig a bigger space and then switch off every week. It's hard right now. Hopefully this will all be over soon and you can find the perfect bromance for him!
