Hi all. Firstly thank you for letting me onn here.
I'm after some advice. We had two pigs, but a couple of days ago sadly one of them passed, very much to our dismay.
We acquired these two as a temporary gig, the location they came from asked us to look after them just over the winter period, as they were outdoor pets, and the setting would be closed for 2 weeks and it would be too cold for them to stay out. We live in a small flat but agreed due to the fact we love pets and it would only be short term, plus they weren't being looked after very well.
After the cold period they refused to have them back, so we ended up keeping them full time. But we don't really have the room.
So I suppose the question is will this one be okay on its own if we give it a lot of fuss, or would we be better giving it up. We are not concerned about keeping it, it purely about the welfare of the animal, and we know that he is at least 6 years old.
Thank you for any advice.

Hi and welcome

It is great for you taking on the two old boys on short notice. I am very sorry for your loss.

The best place for you is to speak to Coseley Guinea Pig Rescue and Sanctuary about companionship with a similarly aged end of life/ownership companion who would return to the rescue after the death of your boar or alternatively giving up your piggy. They are the best private rescue active in your neck of the woods; especially after the RSPCA has majorly dropped guinea pigs. Several of our forum members have adopted from them.

You can find them on Facebook which I am currently not on.

What a lovely caring person you are.
First you took on the unwanted piggies and gave them a lovely home.
Now you clearly want the best for your surviving boy.
@Wiebke has given you the best advice.
So sorry for the loss of your other boy.
Be gentle with yourself as you grieve

Yes as above sorry for your loss but yes it's best if your piggy has a friend.

I am so sorry for your loss, I hope you can get in touch with Reta at Coseley and find a little companion for your remaining piggie 🤞
