Hi,
In this morning my piggie doesn't get out from her cage -usualy do this, ... doesn'r eat, she's not anymore in her way of be -in a happy good mood . She looks she's not felling in a good mood, it look very upset and quiet . She's not tremble , but she doesn't eat , not even the spinach leaves which when she hearing the bag rusting start "talking" and squicking that all the neighbours knew. I tried forced to give her water from bottle but she got anger , and she bite that. First sign of furry in few hours. She can walk ...she run a llitle bit in living room but she gon doun to the sofa and stayed there crouched. In fact all the day stayed crouched inside her cage. Is like a human who has fever. You how we are when we got cold ?- limp, no mood to eat, want to stay just in bed.... she's the same now. Yesterday I cut her nails . From one of them licked blood which I stopped with toilet paper. After taht she ran...she played , she eat....but in this morning- LIMP MODE ! Shoul I be scared of something. ?
Please, let me know if you have this kind of situation with your pets, and I would like as well to have a medical advice, if is somebody entitle to give that kind of infos.

Thank you so much !

Hi! Please have your piggy vet checked as an emergency ASAP!
Lethargy and not eating are two life and death alarm symptoms!
List Of Life And Death Out-of-hours Emergencies

PS: Please do not think that you have done anything wrong yesterday. Nicks of the quick during nail cutting that stop bleeding within a quarter of an hour do NOT cause this kind of reaction!

Ok, thank's. We will go right now, in this morning. I'll let you know what the doctor said when we'll come back.

We came back from the vet . She has been checked... in the mouth as well the doctor "verify " her tammy , hear her with the stetos, took the tempretaure which is normal -36 . Said that she doesnt have marks or reaction of poisoned . Now, Olivia is moving right (when we "push" her) ..she doesn't looks dizzy , she's responsive and agile but she's grumpy and just want to sleep. Doctor made her 2 injections to came back again the appetite , give us some critical care food to mix with warm water 2 spoons of warm water 1 spoon of critical care food....from 6 to 6 hours -10 ml or from 4 to 4 hours half...5 ml . We feed her..somehow forced - she doesn't want even to lick the food , otherwise she doesn't feel comfortable to be dirty on the mouth like a baby, but this time doesn't lick.. :( So we fee her..put her in a warm place...she's sleeping now....will see what happens ..

@Yvy If she is not eating for herself then you need to be syringe feeding her a lot. Guinea pigs need to have food constantly moving through their digestive system otherwise it will shut down and the pig will die.

A good way to determine if you are feeding enough is to weigh her regularly. If she is losing weight then it is not enough.

:( She passed ! Frustrating and sadness ...to not have the ways to help them . We feed her yesterday with the syringe ...3 times... She broke our heart !

I am so very sorry for your loss. You clearly loved her and tried to help her. Sometimes we just can’t save them. Be gentle with yourself as you take time to grieve her passing.

Fuuu....we read more in this morning on internet ! It seems many people say the same story - they are passing away very quick, with no explanation ... with no specific reasons.... just them digesting system fail ..for apparently no reasons ! Many testimonies on forums with people who passed away them guinea pigs had the same story :" with no reasons they stop eating and drinking and die . " Seems this little beings live is a lottery ! Day by day.... In most of the situations when they didnt eat , the death is inevitable ! We didn't know that ...and we hoped she well be fine ! She was physically stong since she start agonising , never let us to observe that she's so so ill ! Tricked us again !...the last trick... NEVER THOUGH it can hurt like that... :(

Sorry for your loss 😔. Its not really a lottery with guinea pigs. Well it can be with genetics. But it all about catching sickness early. The longer you have pigs and the more you have, the more skilled you get at spotting when something is wrong. Not eating is a top one. Dont let this put you off

I don't know what to say .....yes , "lottery" ward probably is not appropriate but , what to say when she , at 11 in the evening broke the cage , pulling - :" I'm hungry or I want to get out a little bit"....after a normal day...after all rest of 3 years days ..same days..., and in the morning got "limping "-doesn't want to eat , doesn't care the spinach plasctic bag is swishing... ?!....It was absolutely weird ! So sudden ! With no obvious or specific reasons ! Suppositions could be a lot...but ...

So sorry for your loss. I hope you are OK. It sounds like you did everything you could.

No its not inappropriate. Jus didnt want you to be put off of guinea pigs by what you read and took it in as. You did good helping her 👍

I am so sorry Yvy, on the passing of your piggy. We have a rainbow thread where you can leave a message.
You did very well, it wasn't your fault, so don't feel guilty. Although it wouldn't have helped your piggie they should be kept in pairs.

We made mistakes ...and people who want to have and keep this little adorable animals has to know some basic rules . First of all I have to tell you that never felt Olivia is felling alone - I tell you she was like a little dog. When we were at work and our daughter at school , most of the time she got rest . When we came home started the fun . Regarding feed them - we gave in all of these 3 years to Olivia to much spinach I think... one hand of leafs ..2, 3 times / day .I'm woorried she has stone to the kidneys :( She eat hey...that's for sure...she likes some kind of seeds ..kind of seeds, -that mixed food foe guineas and hamsters. We stopped for a while, to pur herin the water that dust of vitamin C. :(

I made the same mistake with spinach, which i think gave my old boar 3 bladder stones in one go. He passed away too. I still feel guilty. But it is what it is, and now my pigs i have now are on a very good diet.
