for a pair of pigs it is two by 4 feet, i would say add a foot to the end per extra piggy (2 x 5 for 3 pigs etc)
It depends on the pigs, most girls can live together really happily in large groups, but some do not like it, and boars often are better in pairs or neutered in a group of girls, but as i said the number of pigs kept together depends on personalities.

With regards to whether its better to have more or less piggies thats down to the space you have available, whether you have the time and the money to take care of more piggies. Are you a new guinea pig owner? You could start with a pair and see how you go from there? I had a pair for almost 3 years and now have a group of 5. Since getting the group I don't think I would ever have just two again as the dynamics and interaction between them is so different to just having a pair.

I started with a pair of girls last February. In the December we added a baby girl and just a few weeks ago added a neutered boy 
These all live together in a double 4 x 2 hutch (which is now completely full
