I’ve been thinking about getting my one female guinea pig a friend, since I know it’s very important. Someone in a nearby city is trying to give away 3 female pigs, if I were able to adopt them, atm I would only take one, since I dont know if I’d have enough space for three or four of them, but if my cage is big enough would it be better to take all of them? I’d feel bad about splitting them up, but I’m guessing it would mean a lot of extra work...

It’s a 2 story diy cage, it’s about 5.5 square feet on each floor (I wanted to make one from a dresser and it was the largest one within my budget where I live) would that be big enough for 4 pigs? I’m just curious because I was only thinking about getting one or maybe two more, this isn’t a definite thing, it was just a thought.

Please see our cage size guide here Cage Size Guide
4 piggies need an absolute minimum of 12 foot space so it sounds like your cage would definitely meet that requirement (the additional level does not count towards the space requirement).

Thanks for responding. I’m a bit confused with your answer though, did you mean it definitely would NOT meet the requirements? If not would three work or could it only be two?

Sorry I read it as 5.5 feet square meaning each side is 5.5foot long my mistake. Yes it would unfortunately not be big enough for four. Please see the cage size guide I have linked you too for the minimum sizes for 2, 3 or 4 pigs

I have just checked the cage size guidance again and the minimum size requirement for 2 pigs is 8 square foot so I am sorry to say that your current cage is not big enough for any pigs at all. Is it possible to consider a c&c cage as an alternative?

No, sorry, with how much time and money went into that cage, I just can’t build another one. I also have a dog who will gladly eat her if she got the chance, so I wouldn’t dare trust a c&c cage.

It’s a lot better then what she was in before, my friends and family already think I’m crazy for making her a bigger cage. It seems to be big enough, she can popcorn around and she loves to run up and down the ramp. Thanks for responding though.
