Skin advice pease!

Thankyou… we have been to 3 different vets so far, there isn’t any exotics near me as far as I’m aware. I feel like I’m the crazy guinea pig lady! Also I’m extremely worried about the financial side of things too, there’s been a lot of expense recently with two of my older piggies that were pts and also my cat too. I’ve pretty much used up all my savings and I’m not sure how long I can keep Hettie’s care running.
I’m scared that I might have to surrender her to a rescue but that seems like the worst result ever, also a massive failure on my side. I’m really struggling to cope.

I can understand your frustration - it is so expensive vet treatment so I do understand
Sending you a big hug …you’re not alone in coping with this - we’re here to support you and Hettie

If your vet is speaking to an exotics vet for advice, and sending photos etc, I don't see that there would be a huge amount to gain by travelling a long way to get to one anyway.

Thankyou so much, you’re very kind, everyone is, for all your help and support and kindness. It really helps to be able to share my concerns ☺️

Thankyou, the new vet did say he’s still in contact with an ex exotic vet who worked at the practice, and mentioned about her help if needed so hopefully that will make a difference 🤞

Technically because intrafungal is oral meds and ivermectin is a topical spot on, they can potentially both be used at the same time.
I personally have never had to use both at the same time. You may find other threads on here where people have but those people would have been under vet guidance doing so.

Hi, I just wanted to give an update on Hettie’s progress…
As she wasn’t improving after so many weeks of Itrafungal, I’ve been treating her with ivermectin again, and two weeks later there’s a noticeable improvement! Her bald patches are growing again which is such a relief! The only thing is she still has a small crusty/flaky area of about 5mm under her grown fur ( above the V shape ) which can’t be seen unless parted. I’m just concerned about whether this will improve with the 3rd dose of ivermectin, or maybe it’s a separate issue.
She’s putting on weight and eating well, and in good health.

Ah that’s good news I’m so glad to hear Hettie is improving 🥰
I’m pleased you found out what was needed
Mmm I don’t know about the crusty/flaky area ….I'm sure someone with experience will be along to advise.

Please can I ask for help…. I think I spoke too soon about Hettie improving!
Checking her just now after two days and this has happened! She has broken the skin on her back where it’s the most crusty/flaky and it looks sore.
I feel like we’re back to square one again after she was doing so well.
This is really stressful now as I know she should see a vet, but after my experiences with them my trust is doubtful!
Is there anything more I can do to help her at all?
Any advice would be extremely appreciated.

Oh I’m sorry to see that - Hettie is doing well and you've done an amazing job of looking after her 🥰
I can’t really offer any advice but I’m sure someone will be along soon to offer help and advice
Take care

Thankyou! 🥰

Just to add, even though Hettie’s fur has begun to grow again on her bald patches, the crusty/flaky patch is still very uncomfortable for her when I touch this, and it seems to have got ‘thicker’ in the last few days.
Really conflicting, when there’s been some improvement, but also not!
