Hi everyone, I have 2 guinea's that I rescued over a year ago, they had lice and were treated. However they have flakey skin and when you touch their skin start nibbling uncontrollably? I have used creams and shampoo's, I am going to phone the vets tomorrow, does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you.

Could be lice or ringworm. Maybe mites. If you could send a pic of the irritated area I could tell you if it is ringworm. Let us know how the vet goes though

It could be mites or it could be a fungal infection. Do not put anything else on it until you have a proper diagnosis as it could make the condition harder for the vet to diagnose.
Mites need a different treatment to lice so wouldn't be cured by any creams or shampoos. Fungal could react positively to the right cream but it's unlikely to cure it altogether.
Best of luck at the vets, hope they get to the bottom of this soon

Please do not treat on spec.

It sounds like mange mites or a fungal infection - and they need very different treatment.

Your vet won't thank you for wiping the crime scene and making a proper diagnosis much more difficult! Rather spend what you pay for shampoos and cream on a prompt vet visit and good quality treatment so you can get on top of it quickly and do not end up spending a lot more in the end. The biting indicares some more serious skin irritation than just scratch will sort.

Hi guys, thank you for the help I forgot to reply! The vet had said I had taken the correct course of treatment which is what I followed via a phone call with them (not just going out and testing them as it may have appeared) all the vet found were dead mites however she still gave me treatment to use fortnightly. She had reassured me that this is very common as I was certain I done something wrong. They are all good now and are making a slow improvement, was all good at the vet until one peed on the vet :no: thanks again everyone!:)
