I understand these can live on guinea pigs without causing too much distress. I notice the dark bits on the hair with my lighter boy, I have bathed him and they don’t budge.
I’m now more concerned with my other boy. He seems to scratch frequently and now has much shorter hair on the back of his neck and side. When I inspected I noticed some flaky skin? I’m hoping it’s maybe just dry skin but I would hate for him to have mites that can burrow into the skin. I will upload a picture and hopefully someone can advise. I will certainly take him to the vet if this does look like mites but would like some advice beforehand. Thank you :)

Pigs can scratch quite a lot without it being a sign of anything nasty, but if it gets to a point where they're losing hair because of it then I would think that it's probably mites or something. Then they'll need a vet appointment.
