This is going to sound like a strange question but is it possible for guinea pigs to develop brown skin pigments? The reason I ask is because both Eleanor and Eliza have developed brownish spots on their skin. Eliza has 4 (two are fairly large) and Eleanor has 2. Eliza is 4 in November and Eleanor 4 next April. Erin and Ena have none.

All 4 guinea pigs are having mite treatment at the minute as we are not sure if the spots are scabs so we are just being safe and the skin is a bit flaky around the scabs.

I am just considering the possibility that may be they are pigments rather than scabs. If the piggies do have mites, they are in the very early stage.

Two of my girls has brown spotty pigmentation behind her ears, they are only about 12/14mnths old and a tortoishell/white. I'm not sure of the answer but just letting you know a couple of mine have it too.

Maybe someone will know more?

x.
