Hey, so recently my boar Charlie has been acting unusual compared to how he used to act before, especially when it came to being pet and handled. I’m suspecting that he may have some sort of skin problem just based on his overall symptoms that I’ve been taking note of but I’m unsure if I should treat for mites or for a fungal infection of some sort. (I am considering just taking him to a vet in order to see what they say, if anything)

Here’s what I’ve noticed: he has this dandruff-like white flakes in his hair (he has black hair so it’s very clear to tell), has been scratching and biting his skin way more than usual, has squeaked in pain at least twice when I went to pet him towards his hips (where he scratches sometimes), sheds more than what was usual for him, sometimes also has those dandruff-like flakes at the base of the hair that he’s shed and has gone from really relaxed and fond of petting to essentially hating it as he’s purred, lightly chattered his teeth, and has pulled at my clothes until being put back into his cage; Which is all totally unlike him. Any thoughts?

He definitely needs to see a vet. They'll prescribe the correct treatment for it. It sounds like mites but it's best to let the vet diagnose it.

I agree with @Jaycey
He needs to see a vet, and sooner rather than later.
Skin issues like mites can be very, very distressing for guinea pigs, but with the correct treatment they will clear up quickly.
A vet will be able to prescribe a proper strength medication to clear them up as fast as possible.
Sadly a lot of the treatments sold in places like pet shops are simply not strong enough to treat the problem and can actually make the situation worse in the long run.

Okay! I’ll do my best to get him to a vet as soon as I can, thanks for your help
