My rescue pig (about 6/7 weeks old) came to me with a bad mite infection.

She's just had her 2nd ivermectin dose

I've also been putting Gorgeous Guineas lavender & myrrh lotion on a sore patch on her back that didn't seem to be clearing. The sore patch has dried up within 3 days but seems to have become dry and dandruffy. She fur in that area looks a but greasy.

Yesterday and today she has become very very hard to catch in the run. I don't know if there's a link with that and her skin problem & she's in pain or she's just showing a feisty character.

Am I OK to keep trying her with the lavender lotion to see if anything improves further? OR should I just go straight to the vet? I don't know if she might have a fungal infection, bad mites that have just taken a while to clear up or what.

I'm not sure whether the very sore patch drying up into a dandruffy patch is necessarily a good sign.

What do you think, please?

Hey,

My boys had a mite infection, and my longhair had really flaky skin from the beginning. I started ivermectin a couple of weeks ago and I think it's managed to calm the itch because the sore are starting to scab over and look healthier. I'm kinda waiting now to see if things improve.

I would take them to the vet just to be on the safe side, it could very well be a fungal infection, as you say x

Has she been seen by a vet? With a bad mites infestation a course of injections is probably advisable, as it works better than topical treatment. You also want to exclude any other problems like fungal which find an ideal environment in warm/humid conditions and weakened animals.

She's had mite treatment (shop bought) and that has made a huge improvement. she's alos had a 2nd treatment which has also improved things further
shall leave it til Monday and if no better take her to vet.
she's eating normally, running around and very feisty
she doesn't seem to be suffering or quiet, but am aware that they do hide problems

Back from vet.
They agree it is fungal.
She's just had her 1st bath in shampoo in which she was still as a statue.
Poor mite
Am just drying off the last bits with her now.
She now needs to be quarantined again...
At least it's getting treated now so fingers crossed this is the last of her ailments!
