A group of people in the UK are trying to pass legislation against selling the hairless breeds (Skinnies and Baldwins) of guinea pigs in pet shops. They currently have no Baldwins there, but they want to have them covered as well as the Skinnies. There is some misinformation on this petition regarding temperature, skin care and the lack of thymus in the Baldwin, but the important thing is to get it passed.

Since it is common practice for guinea pigs to be kept outdoors in the UK, I personally feel that this is a good idea to protect the welfare of the Skinnies and other hairless breeds. Not because they are weak but because they have special care requirements. Even if you do not agree with all of the terms of this petition, it will help to keep the hairless breeds out of pet stores. We all know that pet stores are inconsistent with their education. Education is the best tool to ensure the proper care and welfare of the hairless breeds.

Thank you,
