Hi everyone,

I wanted to ask if anyone could give me advice o maybe why my skinny pigs ears are completely standing up? Hes always had his ears facing down almost like elephant ears I guess you would say and just recently I've noticed his ears standing completely up almost like hes alert.. He has no other conditions, non head tilt, nothing. hes perfectly fine. hes eating, drinking, pop corning, totally normal. ut his ears are just looking a little funny.

Thanks,

Hi!

Whether ears are standing up or not in guinea pigs is basically a question of size and gravity. Most young piggies have upstanding ears but as they grow larger they will flop the more the bigger they grow. Most adults have therefore floppy ears, some are floppier than others, depending on their individual size. ;)

It can be that he has a growth spurt but his ears have not grown as much although the muscles holding them may have. There is no health condition connected to upstanding ears.

I hope that this allays any worries of yours?

He’s been bugged! They hear everything! Watch yourself! (Kidding, of course, I was gonna reply with pretty much the same thing that Wiebke wrote.) I love owning skinnies but I feel like I‘m on high alert with them because you can really see everything on their lil’ bodies.

LOL, no wonder he's been a little nosy lately.... I'm just kidding but yeah I'm grateful everyday for his well being because I know so quickly it can become stressful if anything goes wrong.
