Hi peeps
We have a girl guinea we've had for about 2 and a half years. She is a short haired ginger and white girl and she has become thin. She has been thin for a while but it doesn't seem to be affecting her, she is eating fine, drinking fine, passing fine, everything health wise seems to be fine she is just very thin. As winter is coming on I'm concerned that she won't have enough body fat to survive. She has her sister in the same cage (who is actually an average sized guinea) who seems to be keeping her warm enough. We've put a heat mat in the cage for her but she doesn't seem to be using it. She is happily munching away on hay at the moment but I'm still troubled for her. Is there something we can do for her or feed her to help her with her body fat? We lost a guinea pig, who ironically looked exactly the same as this one, same breed, sex and colour and she became terribly thin and we lost her to a protein disease and this one seems to be going the same way. We syringe fed her baby food towards the end which seemed to help for a while but ultimately we did lose her. Vet did say there was nothing more we could have done for her anyway but any advise given would be great to help her in the meantime, more espcially with boosting her body fat...what foods may help with that? Thanks :)

Where are you?
Are your pigs indoors or outdoors?
Have her teeth been checked?
Has she any skin problems such as mites or fungal trouble?
Does she squeak when she passes urine?
How heavy is she and how much weight has she lost?

We live in Yorkshire, its bitterly cold outside at the mo. Pigs are outdoors but in a solid shed so it does keep them relatively warm. Her teeth have been checked and are fine. She doesn't have any mites or fungal trouble. She doesn't squeak when she passes urine, only when she knows food is coming lol. I have no idea how heavy she is but it isn't very heavy at all and I couldn't tell you how much weight she has lost. She was always a relatively slim pig but this goes a bit beyond that
