Went to a garden centre just outside Bristol today, they had a pet store so I had to have a look! They had some skinny pigs, looked healthy and bright eyed but knowing they have special needs and seeing them on sale to the unsuspecting first time piggy owner my heart sank. The only hope I have is that the price will put parents off buying these for children's pets at £140 for boars and £160 for girls. The only thing is this shop was in an affluent area, the type of place where designer pigs may appeal. I wish I hadn't looked now, I really need to stay out of pet shops.

Is this Cadbury? My friend got rats from there and they were deaf :( was in there once and they had hamsters biting eachother as they were too old to be together :( and all staff were too scared to pick them up -____-

It was Cadbury. All the animals looked very healthy and well cared for so fingers crossed they have improved. I would like to think they will inform anyone buying skinnies of their needs, I was just very surprised to see them on general sale.

The one plus point is that the sell them for a rediculus price so should put off impulse buyers.

The rats especially make me angry. I keep and have fostered rats and when I raised a litter for the rescue it was so obvious how under nourished the rats in petshops are. Rescues tend to be small but the ones I raised were so robust in comparison to the ones at Cadbury it just screamed at me how underfed they were in those vital first weeks.
