If i hadn't joined this forum. I wouldn't have known you could get a breed of guinea pigs that have got no fur cept maybe a little bit on it's nose.
I have never seen any around in pet stores. Where do you get them from? I know people on here own some.
They just seem weird or no offence or anything and i don't wanna start a fight but they look ugly. Doesn't it feel weird when you pick one up all you feel is skin? or maybe if i started to have one it would be weird because i'm used to having piggies with fur. And the poor things must get cold. And i think i've be too scared to show it to new people that come into our house incase they freak out and scream lol
I mean i know they can't help the way they look. But does anyone else here think that skinny pigs are weird and strange?

Up to now you won't find a Skinny in a pet shop which is how it should be as they need a certain temp and shouldn't be kept outside. That way they don't miss the fur, whow can they miss something they have never had anyway?

I do prefer the hairy varieties and could never own a skinny because of my allergy to the dander from guinea pigs. I can hold them just can't have them in the house in great numbers as I get a bunged up hooter! :(|)

That said if one needed rescuing then of course I would do it. :)

Some people don't particularly like the skinnies. I wasn't too keen at first I have to say but now I have two of the litle darlings and they are just like any other guinea pig but obviously without the fur.

Because of this they do eat much more and poop and wee much more - they have to keep their body fat up to enable them to stay warm. Mine are in cuddle cups and are very toasty here in our playroom.

As you say its each to their own but I love my Arthur and Merlin. They are confident little piggies and love to snuggle up with their furry friends.

Cuddling a skinny is lovely as its like having your own little hot water bottle.

Helen.

I am a true animal lover and believe that each living creature has it's own beauty. Having a particular soft spot for guinea pigs (hairy or otherwise) I completely disagree that they're 'ugly'.

We had a rat that was hairless that came into work and I thought it was ill as I didnt know that you could get hairless ones!

i have never seen a skinny pig only in books so i cant really comment do they feal a bit like velvet to stroke thats what i imagine they would feal like ?/

i think skinny and baldwin guinea pigs are sooo awesome. i've never had one, but think they're wonderful. such lovely things that need so much tlc. have a forum search for kanika, she's my all time fave x

I'm just intrigued. @) I have never seen one for real but would love to. I think the beauty of an an imal is definitely its inner beauty. Lots of breed dogs have an awful character but mongrels that don't look anything great make fantastic furrry friends, more resilient and just as faithful. So if I was asked to adopt a skinny because it's the partner my piggy wanted, I'd say yes. It's a great lesson for accepting differences and looking beyond the surface. Skinny or furry, they are still piggies.:)

I had only seen a photo of a skinny until I met and held Helen's Arthur. He is just soooo incredibly cute - so much more character in his looks than the average piggy.
