Last week I took Skittles in to the vets for an emergency teeth filing as his had become seriously overgrown. This was due to me not being informed on the proper type of food to feed him and he wasn't getting pellets to keep his molars worn down.
He now has the proper food, but since getting him back he hasn't been eating or drinking very much. He will eat a little bit of greens, and a couple pellets at the most and has had only a couple drinks of water in the past couple of days. I have softened his pellets and have been syringe feeding him baby food that has plenty of vitamin C in it for the past week. I have also been giving him water in the syringe. After having some baby food he will eat a couple of pellets then go sit in a corner fluffed up.
He hasn't pooped much either and when he does it is small stringy and hard, the latest had a white mucus on surrounding it. He is still active and will chirp and wheek when I am playing with him, he also still pushes his little house around and has been happily flipping it over the past couple of days.
I am not sure if he just isn't getting over the anesthesia, or if he is lonely because he lives alone, or if it something new. At the beginning of the week he seemed to be doing better and was starting to eat and drink.
Any advice would be wonderful.

I have a piggie who has had dental problems and has had his teeth filed .... I chop up cucumber and strawberry in to small pieces and hand feed him that way. I am doing that for him just now actually . Last time he had problems I had to help him to eat for about a week until I witnessed him eating normally again. He also gets syringe fed too so I know he is getting the food . Hope your piggie starts eating normally soon , it is so worrying !

It's very worrying as before this happened he was a very greedy piggy, always eating and begging for food! He hasn't even touched his hay which he usually loves.
I will get some strawberries and cucumber tomorrow morning, maybe that will perk him up a bit.

You would be as well mashing his pellets into a paste and syringing him, my Patrick has had 2 dental's without GA, also my Fred has had 2 dental's with GA both ate immediately after. I wonder if his teeth are still the problem, I see your in Glasgow, so are we? Perhaps take him to another vet for a 2nd opinion.

I will pm you.

How much food should I give him at once in the syringe?
I will call another vet on Monday and see what they think if there isn't any improvement. The vet I took him to said a lot of Guinea Pigs never get over being put under so I am pretty worried about that.

That's not true - he needs 90 - 120 ml's per day we're are in Glasgow? I have some Critical Care, syringes and probiotic if needed.

Is he on pain relief?

Mmm, definatly get another opinion from a different vet.

Does your boy have hay available 24/7? as this is very important for keeping teeth down.

Yes I am in Glasgow, he is not on pain relief, I was not aware that was offered for Guinea Pigs. I may need the Critical Care, syringes and probiotic, thanks. :)

Sorry, i didnt mean to accuse, just to check as you mentioned about diet before :) My piggies hate standing in hay! they pull it all from the rack then lean over the pile to get the fresh stuff from the rack. *rolls eyes* :))

Thats why i love this forum! Great of you to help flintstones! Do keep us updated when you can :)

He has started to eat again this morning! I offered him some broccoli which he nibbled for a bit, before starting to eat his food. I am worried if I take him off my desk he will stop eating so he is chilling on the desk eating breakfast. Don't worry I am sitting right next to him so he can't jump off.
I am so relived right now, it looks like he is finally on the road to recovery.
