My 5 year old daughter wants to have a sleepover this weekend with 4 of her pals however, as some of you know i'm going to be busy regrouping/rebonding/repairing my cavies! In addition, her little friends make so much noise and want to be around my cavies petting and touching and holding all the time! I don't want to seem unreasonable to my baby girl but this weekend is going to be stressfull for my pigs already and even if i decide to put off the sleepover how do i control the girls so they wont take so much interest in my cavies? I just wish they would just look and don't touch! :help: Plus...my pigs are still all quite young and not interested in being touched too much by strangers!

Could you not have the sleepover another weekend ? Not sure if this helps :lol!:

Well i have made a decision to have the sleepover another weekend. When i do have the sleepover what shpould i do to ensure that my cavies are not too stressed by the noise and should i allow the girls to hold my pigs?

Is there a room you can keep pigs in away from kids then maybe let them have a hour or so in the room then tell them the pigs need rest?

Actually, i've just spoken to my aunt and she has suggested i use her pressure gate and just block off the little hallway to my guinea hutch and let them know that they cannot go there without my permission. And i will try to distract them with pleanty of other fun activities! No matter what though, this seems like it will make for a stressful weekend! Everyone here for the most part has a hamster that you dont touch because it bites (words usually heard from the owner) or dogs and cats...no guinea pigs really. So they tend to get overly excited .... especially kids!

You definately need to be firm. My 5 year old niece comes round now and then I let her stroke a few on her knee but only for a few mins I usually say they need to go back to their cage as they might need a wee! That works well with kids as they get scared they'll get wee'd on!

LOL that would probably do the trick! Thanks! My daughter has agreed also to make the sleepover with her cousins instead which one is 7 and the other two are 13 and 14. This works out great because they have no interest in my guinea pigs...mostly pizza and movies! :yahoo:

Now for my 13 month old! That little animal has been walking from 7 months and has to be gated in at all times! LOL But she does enjoy feeding the cavies leafy greens and she wont touch them out of fear but she would dig up thier bedding/cuddle cups!
