I am sad to announce that one of my gerbils, Den, sadly died this morning at the age of 3 years 2 months 8...

I found him under his glass shelf with his brother Doug by his side. Den had blood around his eye :(

Sleep peacefully Den. You will never be forgotten. Doug is missing you like crazy and going from past experience, I fear he will not be long behind you 8...

Oh i am so sorry Claire Love, i hope what they say about Gerbils isn't true for yours and his sake. I know nothing about gerbils so tell me off if this is a stupid suggestion, would it be posible to get doug another companion?

So sorry honey.

Sleep tight Den x

Unfortunately not :( Doug is over three years old now and Den was his brother. Gerbils are extremely difficult to bond with another gerbil from a different litter. They would fight and Doug wouldn't cope with the stress.

Unfortunately when a gerbil loses his friend, they usually die from a broken heart 8...

Before I had Doug and Den, I had Kym and Aggie. Aggie died and Kym died with in 10 minutes :( Doug is still with us but he isn't himself at all :(

Oh Claire, how awful for you, i remember one of my old school friends had gerbils and they always died very close together, but it does not always happen (a few people on the hamster forum i am on have gerbils who have lost mates but they are still going storng) so i have my fingers crossed for you and Doug xx

Sorry i did not know what they wee like with new cage mates otherwise i would have never suggested it.

xx

Aww no, thats ok. No need to be sorry.

I would like to think that Doug will stay with us for a while yet but we'll see. He isn't coping too well at the minute :( I have given him some toilet tubes to chew which he usually loves but he is just walking around looking for Den :( When I was trying to remove Den, Doug was guarding him :(

So sorry for the loss of your lovely boy. Massive hugs to you, I hope Doug will be ok x x

RIP Den

Oh bless, hopefully he will be ok sweetie, lots of cuddles and treats in order for him.

Big hugs to you xx

so sorry....I have 2 brothers who I adopted just before Christmas. They are deffo not youngsters and as you say from past experience....:( hope the little fellow will be ok...xx

Thank you for the kind words everyone.

We have put Doug in a spare hamster cage. It isn't ideal for a gerbil but he seems happier in there than he was the tank.

Chris looked at Den before we buried him and he was a mess :( blood had seeped out from his ear. There was a bit of blood there this morning but not that much!

My only hope is that from what ever he died from, killed him instantly 8...

Dear Claire whee are so sorry to hear about darling little Den 8...8...8...
RIP Den run free at the bridge, enjoy rummaging around for little grubs and parsley and have fun playing with all the other little gerbils, you'll be so very very sadly missed by your mum, dad and mate Doug but NEVER EVER forgotten xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) and loads of loves from Glynis, Velvet and Onyx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Oh no, poor little man. Rest in peace little Den. x

Thank you. Doug has moved in to a spare hamster cage and seems a little happier now he isn't in the big tank he shared with Den.

Doug likes to come out and sit with me now. He's missing the company x
