Our beautiful syrian hamster Kira passed away tonight in my partner's arms. We think she had a stroke a few days ago and we have been backwards and forwards to the vet since. I wasn't able to be there when she died but my partner luckily got home from work in time. I arrived home 5 minutes later :(

Kira came to live with us in March when Popcorn Paradise Rescue rehomed all of their animals. We were told she may not even make the journey as she had been in and out of hibernation in the days before. Well as soon as she arrived we thought she was going to go there and then as she looked so frail but the minute she realised she was somewhere new she decided she had something worth sticking around for.

In the few months she has been here she has been such a lovely little girl, loved cuddles, playing in her ball and climbing behind her wheel to swing from the roof of her Hamster Heaven.

We will always love you little Kira, go play with Cameo at the bridge and tell her we love her too.

This was her favourite game - putting my pyjama ribbon in her pouches

I am so sorry for your loss. She was a very special little girl.

I found it hard when my syrian Flo passed in sept (shes my avatar pic) its amazing how they make you fall in love with them even tho there so small.

Exactly, we have lost 10 hamsters in total this year so far plus one who died the day we were supposed to adopt him, and each one has hit me really hard. Add to that losing 3 pigs and I now just want this year to be over. Flo was beautiful, she looked like my Cameo.

Thank you everyone, we are off to take her to the vets tonight for cremation ;(

We think we will at some point move Porridge into her Hamster Heaven as he will have a lot more space.

At least sweet little Kira had some lovely times with you, and that pic of her with your pj's cord in her pouches is just a classic, i'm sure you'll treasure it XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
 
Thanks Glynis, am still coming to terms with the fact that she's gone. You're right, I will treasure that picture, though not the PJ ribbon which I had to cut off and throw out. Hamster breath is not nice.
