On Wednesday night, 11 November, my gorgeous, sweet Meryn gave up her fight to stay with me.
It’s particularly hard to come to terms with as she was born here (accidental pet shop pregnancy) and has therefore always had good and proper care - she was only 3 years and 4 days old.

She was always her own person/pig; did her own thing and wasn’t terribly affectionate until the last couple of weeks of her life, when she seemed to seek me out more and was happy being cuddled - especially when she was trying to avoid syringe feeding!
Before that, after I lost Darcy and was introducing Rosie as a third piggy, Meryn gave her hell! She was very, very determined that the new imposter was definitely not enjoying the privileges of 2nd piggy! I despaired at that time of her ever allowing Rosie, the imposter, anywhere near Fifi or the hidies at one end of the cage - poor Rosie was so tentative in crossing a certain area because Meryn would soon tell her to get back to her own space. Eventually things settled down and all 3 seemed happy together. Meryn had 2 sisters, Meleri and Miaren, who went to live their best lives with @Wiebke - I’m very grateful to her for giving them a wonderful home.
I miss Meryn so much but am glad she’s not suffering anymore. Here’s a video of her enjoying some basil, to take away the nasty taste of medicine.

I am so very sorry that Meryn has left you. She was very much loved and had the best lives. You struggled hard with Meryn when she needed extra support to make it as a baby. It is not surprising that you forged your strongest bond with her!

Sadly all three sisters are on the ASBO side and don't seem to have the best gene mix. Fifi or even her own mother must have been very stressed when pregnant as all three sisters seem to have set her own default 'normal' setting on a high stress level - something that happens in the womb. :(
PS: Things have calmed down a lot here since Miaren discovered Llelo (who'd just ended his post-neutering wait), sneaked in and took over him and his cage - and never looked back. Meleri can be still quite a cracker and mix up the group from time to time; she very much resembles Meryn in outlook so I had to bury my plan of building up a bigger group with the sisters. But she is stable in her trio, which is good as her congenital cataracts are becoming worse.

Thank you Wiebke. Fifi has always been a highly stressed piggy and the most detached - it’s ironic that I’ve lost her sister Darcy - who thankfully was just the opposite and Meryn, yet Fi is going strong! I’m glad Mimi is still happy with Llelo and sorry to hear of Milli’s cataracts. How’s she managing with them?

I’m so sorry you’ve lost little Meryn, what a beautiful girl she was and such a lovely video of her there x

Be gentle with yourself as you grieve.

Millie's OK; she's had them mildly for over a year (you could spot them when you knew what to look for) so she is having time to adapt to them. Mimi is a lot more relaxed and happy since living with Llelo and being her own head sow.

Massive hugs to you at this really sad time. I am so very sorry for your loss. Huge hugs X x

Sleep well little one

RIP Merton
