New Born Pup
Sleep tight Forrest - passed peacefully in our arms at 6am on Thursday 28th February - surrounded by myself, OH, DD and Bubba. You have left a huge whole in our hearts (hence the delay in posting here). However, I will always remember you shouting at Daddy for breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea and snacks in between, at the kitchen door. Our house is so quiet without you here and Bubba is very sad, although we are having lots of cuddles and talking lots of memories, including our holidays to the caravan - which you loved because of all the fabulous big dandelions that grew at the seaside.
Our guinea pigs were originally for our DD (aged 12) as a compromise - we suggested fish, she wanted a dog. Forrest (american crested) and Bubba (american short hair agouti) are our dogs that we don't have to walk. They free roam in the living room (although they both have their own homes). Forrest has always been a heavy drinker (water of course) and at the start of February we noticed that you weren't drinking or eating as normal, not even your favourite cucumber. Over the weekend you developed a lot of fluid under your chin (this turned out to be edema) and we tool you to the vet immediately. They didn't give you a good prognosis but we weren't willing to give up on you (you were only 2 and a bit) so we found an exotic vet an hour away that we took you to the next day. She gave you a little bit of gas and did an x-ray and blood test that showed your kidney's weren't working very well anymore and than they had started to fail you. The vet gave us a few options, so we took you home (as you were eating well again, except hay and nuggets but this would be fine because you loved critical care strawberry smoothie!) and gave you medicine to ensure you had quality of life for as long as you had left. This only turned out to be just over 3 weeks but in this time we made lots of memories, including snuggles, picnics of lots of treats and watching films on the sofa. You woke up at the same time as us on thursday morning, had a cuddle with dad and went to the kitchen door for breakfast as usual. Mum noticed you climb into your bed as you must have been exhausted and picked you up, where you peacefully fell to your forever sleep with us all telling you how much we loved you.
It has been a very emotional month and we are all truly heartbroken but Forrest will forever be in our hearts. He is resting in our garden under a bush that has lovely big pink flowers on during the summer (he loved to hide and peek out and nosy at us in the living room). We are going to plant some bulbs too so that he blooms in the spring.
Sleep tight wee man and enjoy all the cucumber you can manage with your friends over Rainbow Bridge!
