We had to make the decision tonight to help Kelvin, our dwarf hamster to the bridge. We think he was over 2 years old and for the last 2 weeks he was fighting a respiratory infection which combined with the frailty of old age made him very weak.

He came to live with us about 2 years ago. We were adopting Amy from the adoption centre in Pets at Home and were told there was a 3 legged hamster handed in and would we like him. We said yes but then were told we had to wait 3 weeks while he stayed out the back in quarantine. 3 weeks later on the dot I was there waiting to pick him up. He was the tamest hamster we have ever had and I could literally carry him round the flat in one hand.

Today he was very grumpy and hissing at us which was very unlike him and showed us he was fed up so we made the decision and got him an emergency vet appointment.

This is him a few weeks ago in his favourite bed which has gone with him.

Helen I am sorry, what a little character. Hope you are both as okay as you can be. Huge hugs x

Sleep well little one

RIP Kelvin

Oh Helen, I am so sorry about Kelvin. He sounds like he was a wonderful boy whom you have a brilliant home to! Sounds like him coming to live with you was destiny.
R.I.P precious boy x x

You would have loved him Gigi, he would sit in my hand for ages.

I am very sorry for your loss!
RIP Kelvin

Sorry for your loss. That is very sad news :(

A little man with a big personality by the sound of it. You gave him a great life Helen, he looked so cosy in his bed. Night night wee man.

I'm so sorry Helen. He had a great life with you, and you will take comfort from that. Not many people would have wanted a one legged hamster. I'm so glad you had him.
