As some of you may know, my beautiful Erika was diagnosed with Lymphoma just over two weeks ago. I sadly had to make the decision to help her over the bridge yesterday :( With discussions with my vet and due to the fact her tumours were already quite big, we decided not to treat her and her tumours grew rapidly. My vet, Lindsay said that if we hadn't of let her go yesterday, it would only have been a matter of days. The lymphoma was sadly very far advanced in Erika and I had no other choice but to let her go before she began to suffer :(

I would just like to say a massive thank you to @Wiebke. It was her who brought both Emma and Erika in to my life and bonded them with my piggies at that time. I have never had to nurse a terminally ill guinea pig before but Wiebke's support and advise these last few weeks has been invaluable meaning I have been able to enjoy Erika's last few days.

Erika, I adopted both you and Emma back in May 2013 from @The Potteries Guinea Pig Rescue to become companions to Eliza and Enoch. At the time, I was wary that I wouldn't be able to love you in the same way as my 'original' group of guinea pigs but my gosh, how you have proved me wrong.

I was completely heartbroken when you (Erika) was diagnosed just over two weeks ago. The lymphoma has taken you quickly and I miss you so much. You were always a chunky girl weighing in at around 1400g and I am so going to miss our cuddles :(

Sleep tight my beautiful girl and have fun at the bridge with Eliza and Enoch. I hope that you find my other rainbow piggies too who I am sure will love you just as much as us. I, Emma and Ellen are going to miss you so much xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Oh @Claire W I'm so sorry that you have had to say goodbye so soon to your beautiful girl. It's terrible to have to make that decision but heartbreaking as it is, you know that you have done the very best for Erika. Hugest hugs to you. Popcorn free at the Bridge beautiful Erika x

I am so, so sorry that Erika did come down with such a virulent, fast developing form of lymphoma, so you had very little time to get used to the concept of her going to leave you and her friends so soon after Enoch passed away. :(

You do not grieve any less when you know it is coming, but you do your grieving in a different order and with different dynamics. You also have the great gift to say goodbye and to give your love while it can still be received.

In all the time she's been with you, Erika had the best and most loved life imaginable. I remember well how you thought you would not be able to bond and to love to the same degree again after losing Ellie and Erin so unexpectedly. But love is a flowing well, not a finite bucket that you measure out cups of love from until it is empty. Each new bond is a new rivulet flowing from that same well. They do not compare and they do not compete. When you have the capacity to love deeply, you do not lose that when the object of your love dies. ;)

I am sure that her old mates Enoch and Eliza have been waiting for her at the Bridge and that Erika is snuggling up with them free of pain again. My thoughts are with you, Emma and Ellen.

I am so sorry to hear this, she was a beautiful piggy and she had a wonderful home with you. Sending you my very best wishes.
 
I'm so, so sorry to hear this.

I'm afraid it's because we love them so much that it is so painful when they leave us.

Take care Claire - you are a really lovely person and a caring guinea pig owner. Please try to remember what a good quality of life you have given to all your lost guinea pigs .

Dreadful news Claire, and I'm so sorry. She was such a beautiful girl. She had a wonderful home with you, nobody could be a better piggymum. Big hugs for you. RIP dear Erika.
