We are still very shocked to be writing this.
Out of the blue, we lost our beautiful Rufus last night. He was 6 years old. It has really shocked us as he showed no signs of illness and was a healthy, active boy. I fed the piggies their evening veggies around 5pm last night and both boys were eating fine and acting normally. When I went back in to their room at 8pm, Rufus had gone. He was lay in the middle of the cage (when he normally lies in his hay pile), but did look very peaceful. This is one of the most unexpected deaths for us.
Rufus was by far one of the most loving and friendly piggies we've had (similar to Odin). We got him at the start of 2021 when he was rehomed to us, with his brother Bobby. He just oozed confidence and personality. Always the first one to come over for a treat, and always the first one to be climbing into your lap! I'll always remember trying to spot clean their cage with him in there; he had to follow me around and be involved in everything I was doing. Such a sweet and loving boy.
After he lost Bobby, he then lived with two of my other boars (Thor and Boris); my first successful boar trio! He always got along so well with everyone. Such a laid back character. He almost looked like he always had a smile on his face; such a happy boy.
More recently, after Thor and Boris left us, he lived with little Merlin (who you all know of), to keep him company. Though much younger and even more active, Rufus really did take Merlin under his wing. It was very clear to us that Merlin loved having Rufus around.
An absolutely beautiful boy, with his beautiful markings, Rufus will certainly be missed (as are all of my RB boys). There just aren't any words good enough, to write a tribute to this boy. He really was beautiful, inside and out.
We will miss you forever Rufus,
Sleep tight our gorgeous boy
