Sadly we lost our beloved Patches (my avatar) overnight, he was around 5 years old but had only lived with us for the last 2 years. He was such a friendly confident little man and always greeted me with a welcoming wheek in the mornings. This morning there was no wheek and I just knew he had gone.

He leaves behind his cage mate and life long friend of Bubbles.

Run free at the rainbow bridge little man, thank you for your friendship, we will all miss you terribly xx

Oh, that's awfully sad :'(
Run free, Patches, you will be dearly missed.
It's good he lived to a long, healthy age :-)
Best wishes to Bubbles xx

I am sorry for the loss of your gorgeous little man, huge hugs to you at this sad time.

Sleep well little one

RIP Patches
x x

I am very sorry for your loss; Patches was a gorgeous boy and he will be much missed!

Here are tips on how to look best after Bubbles; piggies grieve no less than us humans, but they do so to a different schedule. http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/looking-after-a-bereaved-piggy.110463/
Your closest recommended rescue would be Rainbow Rescue in Southport. https://www.facebook.com/kaylee.rainbowrescue

Thanks Wiebke, some great advice there, and we will certainly look at using the rescue to find a new friend for Bubbles when we all feel ready x

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. These adorable creatures certainly become part of the family. I hope Bubbles is coping and will be OK until you feel it is time to start looking for a companion for him.

The other rescue that definitely offers boar dating with bereaved piggies and has done a good job with several forum member's boys is Milhaven in Keighley - you will be in very safe hands there. It all depends on what they have in in terms of bondable boars at the time. Please be aware that Bubbles will need a companion sooner than you are emotionally ready for one. :(

I am thinking of you!

thanks everyone for your kind words. We have had a very difficult and emotional day. Bubbles is doing ok I think, still keen on eating his veg which I think (hope) is a good sign. Will make sure we have lots of cuddles over the coming days and will hopefully find him a new companion soon. As Wiebke says, I may not be ready for this next step but Bubbles will be, and I've got to do right by him. Patches wouldn't have wanted his buddy to be lonely :o(

To help bubbles it might be a good idea to put an old rolled up sock in with him, something for him to cuddle up to when your not there.. xx

That's just so sad. Run free Patches. x

Only people who are capable of loving strongly can also suffer great sorrow, but this same necessity of loving serves to counteract their grief and heals them.
