Well I made the hardest decision of my entire 36 year life overnight and had Sammy put to sleep about an hour ago.

I have never cried so much over the past 14 hours or so and my head was all over the place.

It wasn't fair to put her through all the stress of lots of tests and there was no guarantee she would get better, plus I was dreading what may be found.

I couldn't put her down this morning and my tears made her due wet. I said sleep tight Sammy pig and that was the last I saw of her.

Beautiful girl with 3 years of lovely memories xx

What do I need to do about Peppa my other piggy as they've always been together? Thank you for all your wise words it means a lot. Just wish I could go open the cage and see her little face x

I am so very sorry for your loss. You made such a kind and selfless decision for Sammy. You are a wonderful mum. I know it is early but when you are ready peppa will need a friend to stop any loneliness.

I am very sorry that you had to make that decision for your beautiful girl; it is always a very gutting one when a piggy is in too much pain and there is no chance of it getting better.

RIP Sammy

We have got an information thread about what you can do for a bereaved piggy: https://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/looking-after-a-bereaved-piggy.110463/
Your closest good standard rescue that offers dating to find a character compatible mate is in your case Wheek and Squeak near Southampton. http://wheekandsqueak.webs.com/
I have gone down the rescue dating road several times with bereaved sows of mine (either other sows or neutered boars), but always got a very loving new relationship out of it. Seeing my bereaved piggy happy again has helped me dealing with my own feelings of grief and guilt better each time, especially after I had to pts a piggy of mine.

PS: I have taken the liberty to blow up the picture for you.

I am so sorry you had to make this decision, it is always a brave one to make and one that is made with complete love. I am so sorry for your loss of your pretty girl. Massive hugs to you. We are all here for you

Sleep well little one

RIP Sammy

I'm so sorry you had to make the decision. Night night little Sammy.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss . You made a very brave decision this morning and put Sammy's needs 1st. RIP Sammy.

I'm afraid that it because we love them so much that it is painful when we lose them.

If I were you, I would make enquires about finding another companion for Peppa straight away . It will be best for Peppa and will help with your grieving.

Popcorn free Sammy.

Aww thats such a lovely photo, she was gorgeous.:luv: these little furballs certainly put us through it. i have had to weigh up the same for's & against's many times & it never gets any easier. the tears roll, the guilt hits you & the grief is nearly unbearable at times. but this is a sign that you loved &cared for her, you are a good piggy slave & some piggies never get to see any of this in their lives, think of the good times you had with her & how happy she was.

Sorry you had to make such a sad decision, but at least you know you did everything you could for her. The time was right & any pain or suffering is no more

have a look through Wiebkes bereaved piggy thread its got some helpful tips to help the remaining pig cope with their loss also. We also have the rainbow bridge section if or whenever you feel you want to post there too, it helps some members at there time of loss.

Big hug for you & chin-rub for little Peppa. Good luck with finding her a compatible companion (you may find she's ready for one before you are)

RIP little Sammy, popcorn free. x
