Almost a week ago, I went up to feed our gerbils and found Juniper had plummeted in weight overnight. Off we went to the vets to find out what happened! The diagnosis was kidney failure or old age, not much we could do but to support you and hope you bounced back. 6 long days you battled, you got so excited at meal times, when I would syringe you baby food, special elderly and convalescing rat liquid food, critical care.. and even though you didn't have the energy to eat them you were thrilled to be offered cheerios and waxworms, having you curl up and fall asleep in my hand was adorable, thankyou for trusting me to keep you safe. You ended up suffering a stroke and it became clear the issue was a well hidden ear infection, but unfortunately antibiotics and metacam didn't help and you passed away today..your brother misses you, and so do I.
Sleep well little man, you earned it, I'm sorry that we couldn't make you better, you so wanted to survive. But we tried our best and you had such a good life. I'm sure you'll fine Bubble, Squeak, Hazel, Peanut, Cashew and Almond wherever you are, our preceding gerbils.
