Guinea Slave
Adult Guinea Pig
I lost Mischief early this morning. She had been unwell for some time but my wonderful vet supported us through and we tried everything we could, but a long list of ailments finally simply caught up with her and she went downhill yesterday. We had a very special night when she slept on me the whole night tucked under my chin, she didnt want to be alone and we had time to have our farewells before she was put to sleep. I do think she knew the end was coming and she accepted it.
I dont want to bore you so apologies in advance, but out of the plus 20 guineas I have had the pleasure to be with, she was one of the most affectionate, loving and cheeky guinea pigs I have ever had. She was one of three sisters who sadly passed away in 2018, leaving her on her own. She never accepted another despite trying, so we built her a penthouse suite in the shed so she could see the others but not be with them. This worked perfectly and she was very very happy. She was real people person and loved cuddles. Some very happy and sweet memories of her..
Mischief, there are many guineas who pass on and touch our lives in so many ways. You made so many people happy, so many people laugh and you gave more love than any other animal I have had. Thank you my beautiful one, you have truly taken my heart with you today.
Sleep well and look out for the others in heaven, you deserve the best time there.
Love you forever xxxxxxxx

- She had an amazing vocal range but she made sure you knew when you were being sent for grass, three attempts with gentle wheeks and then you got it, full on shrieking! (and she always got the others stirred up too!)
- She loved parties, as she was on medication I could not find anyone to look after her one evening so she came with us to a family barbeque in London at my brothers. She loved the attention, loved sleeping in our bedroom and my profound memory of her is her curled up sound asleep as we were listening to fairly loud rock music, with us all around her, she was so, so happy
- Every morning and evening she had to have water and cystease due to cystitis. She knew once she had had this then she had her food...one day when I was fiddling about she simply picked up one of the syringes and starting sucking the end in the hope that I'd get on with it so she could have her food!
- One of her favourite party tricks was to sit on your lap, I would say 'hup' and she would run up my front and sit on my left shoulder...always the left, couldnt be the right
- And my funniest memory was at the adoption centre when we tried to find her a few companions. They were in a run and seemed ok, so we left them to grab a tea. When we came back there were three terrified guineas in each corner and Mischief in the middle looking like butter wouldnt melt. As if to say, 'I didnt do anything!' but around her was white fur and around her mouth was white fur...the other guineas were white, so we knew she had tried to put them in their place!
