He wasn't a guinea pig but a very much loved rabbit...

My sister just told me, after asking about my other rabbit who went off her food just before I came to Holland, told me that my dad went out to check on them/feed them this morning and found him flat in his hutch, unable to get up. Dad took him straight to the vet and there was nothing they could do for him...

I'm so upset that I wasn't there; this is how his dad passed away about 5 years ago. I went with him and comforted him when he was PTS.

I'm so sorry I wasn't there to comfort you Pud-pud. Please find your Mum, Dad, Brother and Sister for me and tell them that I miss them all every single day. Splat will miss you too, but we will take care of her for the rest of her days.

Aww, thanks guys.

Still a bit shocked as I was somewhat prepared to hear similar news about Splat... but not my boy. Splat's back to eating and getting around alright so I'm glad. She's got hip issues now so her hopping isn't brilliant and she's wobbly. If that gets any worse we need to take her back for vet assessment to see what can be done (if anything) to help her. Though last time she saw the vet they told us that she's arthritic and it will get worse; we just have to be sure she's not in pain which she doesn't appear to be in for now.

I talked to mum earlier and she said that he was pitiful, dragging himself round in circles. The vet didn't think it was a stroke but said that it looked like spinal trauma. I have no idea how that could have happened... nothing to fall off/jump off/slip off... She said that she could treat him but that he would probably need to be PTS a couple of weeks down the line anyway. Mum and dad were both there and decided that it was cruel to keep him alive for a few weeks when chances were nothing could be done for him anyway so they made the decision to have him PTS. I would have chosen the same listening to how Mum said he was... It would have broken my heart to see him like that.

I guess I'm thankful that I don't have that last memory of my boy... 8...
