This may sound like a stupid question but I've not managed to see my girls sleeping yet. Either they wake as soon as they hear me, or if I sit stroking them on my lap they just sort of chill and doze but don't appear to sleep, and if I sit in the room for hours watching them they seem to be just as intent on watching me! So what's my best chance of seeing them asleep? i know they are a prey animal so will be very alert to danger etc and this is probably part of the issue, but I figure they look really cute asleep and I just want to see it.

Give your girls time to become completely relaxed with you - it can take a few weeks! It is not a quick process, but as they are already dozing on your lap, you are well on the way.

Most piggies don't sleep with their eyes closed; they need to be either very exhausted or extremely relaxed and secure for the latter. They also tend to wake up very easily, so it is difficult to sneak up for us clumsy humans!

it takes a while for piggies to get used to a new environment, so until they feel really secure they probably won't let their guard down. I've had Muffin since last summer (he is 10 months old) and it is only in the last few weeks when I have seen him sleeping. Even then he doesn't close his eyes, he just curls up and looks a bit spaced out lol :)

Ahhh! I had a slight suspicion of this, in that case I think I have already seen them sleeping.
Sometimes they are so chilled and still I have to make a little noise to make sure they are ok lol
