So i am kinda panicking at the moment as i noticed that Echo my little blind guinea pig was not himself yesturday. I got home from work and had a check on the two of them and Echo was all wet underneath with an extremely large amount of dark-ish coloured urine on the blanket. I took him out and cleaned him off with a towel but then noticed that he has some slight pain around his abdomen along with a lot of gurgling noises in his stomach.

I am ringing the vet first thing in the morning (who deals with guinea pigs) and will hopefully be getting him an appointment first thing. I'm hoping it is nothing extremely serious as he is only 7 months old :(

Has anyone had this or possible know what it could be a sign of. Thanks

Wish I could help but I'm not an expert. I'm sure someone knowledgeable will be along soon. Just wanted to say that I hope your piggy is ok.

Hi!

Please keep an eye on him in case he develops acute bloat or a blockage; in this case, you can't wait until tomorrow.
It is difficult to say without a proper examination whether there is a problem with the guts or whether the pain is impacting on the guts and bladder; it can work either way.

Please weigh him, take him off any fresh veg and top him off with syringe feed (mushed up pellets in an emergency) if he is not eating properly. It sounds like he has been lying in his pee all day.

All the best!

Thanks for the advise. I am closely monitoring him to make sure if there are any sudden changes. His stomach feels nice and soft and i have already taken him off all fresh veg. He is eating away and pop corning into things (blind guinea pig problems haha). The pee only happened and he was maybe lying in it for 3 - 4 minutes.

I'm glad i am off work tomorrow though so i can bring him to the vet (if not during the night) and keep a good eye on him. :D

If he is still popcorning, then he is not in great discomfort or distress! ;)

Yea he has only started popcorning within the last couple of minutes. Only seems to bother him when you touch his abdomen, but doesn't seem to have a great deal of discomfort when you do. Thanks for all your help :)
Not saying its nothing and your getting him checked anyway. But alot of pig hate that area being touched anyway, all mine kick tjeir back legs

He still needs a check, but he should be able to wait until tomorrow. ;)

Hey everyone, only getting on the computer now but i took him to the vet at 1:00 today to see what was wrong. The vet definitely thinks that there is some sort of gut trouble which would explain the gurgling stomach. She gave him some critical care formula and said that if he does not show any signs of change then i have to bring him up on Wednesday to get an x - ray to see if there is a blockage somewhere within him.
So for the next couple of days i will be keeping a close eye on him and making sure that he only gets the hay and the critical care formula. So once again thanks everyone for all of the advise as it honestly helped a lot.

Echo says thanks everyone :D

yea i think it would, the vet was going to give me some but only had a massive tub, which was for dogs, but when i ring on wednesday they should have it in :D
My vet gave me fibreplex for rabbits. Its good stuff but expensive and only lasts 15 doses of 1ml .
