slightly soft, tear shaped poos

when a piggie has soft / tear shaped poops, should veg and grass be stopped or only vegetables please? how long for (it is 24 hours after no soft poos) then slowly introduce veg back.. is this one at a time or just normal variety but feed at a reduced amount, working up over a few days?

For as long as it takes for poops to normalise. In a mild upset or should be just a day or two.
I reintroduce normal variety but in a lesser amount and then increase

Please continue with the cystease but mix it in a little water (about 2 ml) and syringe instead.

It looks only a mild tummy upset that should self-correct rather quickly.

she will definitely not take 2ml of syringed water! absolutely no chance.. i didn’t think you where supposed to force water either so where does that leave me?

You aren’t suppose to ‘force’ water but offering water from a syringe is perfectly fine.
If she won’t take it in water, can you offer it mixed into some syringe feed?
Hopefully it’ll only be a day and she will be back on veg

yes she has no interest whatsoever and runs away especially now she’s drinking more herself!

i only feed like 6 pellets a day so it would be hard to make syringe feed from such a small amount.. i worry about too many pellets see. yes i hope so!

If you can in any way get the glucosamine into her, it would be better since it is one of these things that build up slowly. It is not the end of the world but it is not ideal.

You can gently squirt up to 0.3-0.5 ml into a healthy adult piggy's mouth in one go; do it a bit sideways so it won't hit the back of the mouth full-on. The problem comes when you try that with a very weak piggy or when you squirt things in hard or too much. In most cases, too much water goes harmlessly up the nose (with short-term funny noises) rather than down the wrong way, which most healthy adults can deal with unless they were very weak or already have respiratory issues. The amount recommended above minimises the risk of aspiration in the first place but it also doesn't contain such an amount of water that there is a problem a piggy cannot cope with if a stuck syringe suddenly squirts everything into the mouth.

Aspiration is fatal for babies because they don't have yet a working immune system. They don't die from the aspiration itself but from the resulting pneumonia.

Of course, our feeding care advice has to make things sure-proof for the weakest so we are erring on the safe side. Your piggies are not in the at risk category.

poos still aren’t 100% but definitely better.. would fibreplex be a good idea?

Fibreplex is what my vet advises whenever poops aren't quite right.
