I have 2 guinea pigs about 3-4 years old and have noticed that both have become much slower. They always run at noise or if we move close (we adopted them from another family) but recently they just sit in one spot. They only want to go out in their run in the evenings and just appear much slower and not as responsive. They are eating and drinking and I am doing as much as I can to prevent them overheating. Advice would be great please

They shouldn't be slowing down at that age. The only thing I can think of is the heat, I know how it makes me feel. Do you put covered frozen bottles or ice packs in the cage. My girls I think they are about 3, popcorn round the cage, admittedly they are a bit clumsy, especially Tia the big lump. Lol

Hi! Please have a look at our hot weather tips. If in doubt, have them checked by a vet if you suspect that they may have suffered from the heat.

Thank you all and yes, I do as much as I can for the heat. They have ice packs, ceramic tiles, in shade, I give them a bath in mornings on hot days etc etc. They eat well and do appear healthy except that they appear so much slower and sometimes not moving when I walk up to them or move something next to them. Sometimes I think they are fine, sometimes not! Thanks for all the info
