My female piggy has an enflamed bladder full of sludge. Waiting on blood test and CT scan results and trying to get a urine sample. Looking for advice on tempting her with calcium low foods as she does enjoy all the dark green leaves and any other tips that might be useful please. She was perky, but lethargic today, but still taking her medicines. Am struggling to get the catease in her and also to get her to take the high fibre soluble food

Hi! Has your vet put her on metacam to ease her discomfort meanwhile? How is her peeing?

You may find our diet recommendations for guinea pigs with urinary tract problems in the special diets sections of this guide here helpful. Please either filter or double filter the water or source some low calcium water. Most people are not aware that water and pellets can contribute largely to a high calcium diet; it is not just veg!

Here are our syringe feeding and medicating tips (including tips for unccoperative piggies). You can try to mix some mushed pellets with the syringe feed to see whether that is going down a bit better (please cut off the syringe tip as shown in the guide to allow pellet fibre through) or see whether you can find a different recovery formula that is more acceptable. Information on all these aspects are in the syringe feeding guide.

Thank you for your message. She is on metacam and ranitidine twice daily. I had no idea about the water or the pellets. Her companion is being very attentive and understanding she is poorly bless him. She is pooping, but I don’t notice her wee and piggies usually do gallons. This feeding guide will help thank you and hopefully help her gain weight
