I want to get one for Chester so we can take him on short trips(for long trips and travelling he'll need to be in his cage for comfort)and I also want to get one of those baby pouch slings so I can have him with me most of the time while I'm doing stuff. Good idea or bad? Also, does anyone here know where I can purchase one of those chair beds for him? ::)

I have never heard of a piggie car seat I'm afraid.

They really need to be in a secure carrier for travelling - anything else isn't very safe.

I can't imagine any of my piggies being happy in a sling either - mine are with me a lot but I just let them potter around after me rather than carry them about. Roo and Chester (I have one too!) would both have full time jobs as my shadows if I let them!

I would have thought a sling would not be sensible as the pigs back could be jarred and they can become paralised by hurting thier back or like my artie ( fartie artie) he only twisted his back leg in hay and lost the use of his leg and bowels for a while, rest healed it up but i would'nt take a risk, as for a car seat, I thought it was a joke never ever heard of it haev you actually seen one? but to be honest mine are put in carriers and the seat belt is wrapped around it I add towels inside to keep them from too much movement and make them feel secure,

Me too. :)

Yeah, I can see your point about the sling. That's out. Never thought of it hurting him. :o :-\ I think I'll invest in an animal playpen instead so he can be downstairs running around with us when we're down there and can't hold him or play with him(rare in this house) :D and then I won't have to take his huge cage down there.

The carseats are not what you would think of for a regular carseat. It's actually a heavily padded square shaped seat with arms that extend upward and go over the back of the seat to get locked in. It's deep enough to put extra padding in so he doesn't get jarred around. I just hate the thought of putting him in the carrier we brought him home in. He slid around too much in my opinion. Seatbelting a carrier in is a good idea. Towels sound smart too.

michellemuffin, I'm glad fartie artie's leg is better! ;)

Thanks.

You've been smart in reading our previous posts, well done :) :)

DITTO agree fully with your advice given, btw you've just received it from 2 very knowledgeable piggie people.

You have to be so so careful, when i take Duke (and when Sully was here :'() i had towels for protection
and treats always with me. The vets staff laugh but they know that our boys always
have their own things, this is very important. Safety is an absoute must.
Looking forward to hearing all about Chester's diaries.....

artie has had a change of attitude since he was poorly he now hates being touched so much I have to wrap him in a towel to protect my fingers he is a very moody pig and wont tolerate any other pigs with him although he has got Harvey next door and they touch noses, if you add plenty of towels in the carrier they should'nt move about, I add a cuddle cup as well, my vet thinks I mad but he did order lots of cuddle cups for the sick animals in the surgery

Poor Artie. :-\ I would be devasted if that happened to Chester and he wouldn't let me hold him like he does now. Gee, that must suck for you. :-\

What's a cuddle cup?

its a fluffy inside cotton outside little nest type thing that pigs seem to adore, I think Arties frightened of being hurt poor thing I had to cut the hay that was wrapped round his back leg off him, the vet said it should be ok with rest which he was right about but it left him with a bad attitude, I chop all my meadow hay now,
