I’ve just come back from our vets with Micah.
He needs a minor op to remove a corneal flap - can’t remember the tech name.
The vet was keen to keep him to do it today as they don’t know how long they may be open.

At present small animal vets are not classed as key workers and so may not be allowed to stay open.
They’re waiting for guidance from the RCVS and what will happen with any lockdown.

Hope Little Micah’s operation goes well and he makes a speedy recovery x
It’s a bit of a worry about the vet service you are doing the right thing getting it done now!

All the best!

Sending Micah all good wishes. Bit of a worry about vets. I suspect they have been overlooked as key workers?

Sending you and Micah all the love and luck in the world. Thinking of you both. 💕💕

I am really fearing for the TEAS piggies. Without their regular treatment they can't go on. They all live normal lives, eating for themselves, but if they don't get their treatment at the correct time, there is going to be some very heartbreaking decisions to be made! I am so worried!

I just can't see how this can be right. Provision of veterinary care and medicines should surely be covered?

Hugs and healing wheeks for Micah and all the poorly piggies!
Our vets remains open for now so my advice to anyone with a potentially ill pet who may need to see the vet soon would be to phone now, today, don't delay, just see what can be done and what your vet plans to do in future during any possible further restrictions...

I have found the RCVS and BVA statement on this
Coronavirus: RCVS and BVA issue joint guidance on ‘key worker’ status for veterinary surgeons
It looks like with their obligation to provide emergency care and to prevent suffering they should be able to provide non elective care etc to prevent suffering. I think vets (like some other professions) are going to have to set their own practice specific rules.
I was just looking at that too! Such uncertain and worrying times x

I've brought Betsy's spay forward to next Wednesday but was told that the are not sure if they will be able to do routine operations after this week. They said they would let me know .....

If I can help in any way, let me know xx

Hi, don't know if this will apply in UK but my father in law lives in France and we seem to be following their lead. Vet trips are allowed over there but there are quite stringent rules on the visits etc.
I think if we go into lockdown which is looking more likely then vets would be classed as key.

I’m worrying if there is a lock down on travel if we can get Ted up to Northampton next month for a dental? Its all up in the air atm, I just wish people would be more sensible. Sunday was like a bank holiday with crowds down at the local beach when I went to drop my pressies to Mum (handed in at the door)

I’m sure there must have to be veterinary provision. My worry is whether I’d be allowed out, if we are put in lockdown, to take our pigs to vets.
:agr: To leave people without access to vets would force them to commit an act of animal cruelty, contrary to the law. When my Badger had an infected leg wound so painful that he started biting his own flesh, the vet said I Must have it amputated or have him PTS, to leave it would be animal cruelty.
My local pet supplies shop said they counted as a food shop so would be open whatever, so vets should be able to open if possible.

Just picked Micah up and they made me an appointment for next week for a follow up.
Seems that each practice will make its own decisions.
Ours is saying please wait outside and we will be called straight through when the previous client has left. Hand sanitiser compulsory.
This suggests that my vet will continue but probably not for non essential visits such as a general health check.
Anyway - he sorted Micah’s eye without needing a GA so I am very happy about that. Eye drops twice a day for another week but hope
All piggies happy to be together again.
Poor Micah was quite exhausted after checking out the cage, eating veggies and assuring his wives that he’s fine.

Aw poor little (not so little now I know but to me he'll always be that tiny 600g scrap of baby floof) Micah! So glad he's ok and you still have vet access x

When will everything get back to normal😭😭
