After the loss of our beloved Huxley last month, we bought two male pups called Gizmo and Nigel. I have noticed a very small patch of hair loss by Gizmo's nose and the skin is flaky looking. We have only had Gizmo for two weeks and this was definitely not there when we brought him home.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds fungal to me, I would email Gorgeous Guineas (they are on google and ask advice.) :)

Fungal seems to be far more common on the face than parasitic, so I would agree with Louise. :)

thanks, had a look on google and it does look like a fungal infection...looks very similar to this....

Do you think it would be a good idea to separate the 2 pigs to avoid the risk of it spreading? or do you think that may cause stress?

Thanks

I think maybe now it is too late to separate. as they have been in contact with each other. If treating using a shampoo product it would be best to do both of them to be safe. If you e-mail gorgous guineas they will advise what products to use i did george recently with their stuff and he is looking much better!

Thanks for the advice guys. i have e-mailed gorgeous guineas today with a picture of Gizmo's nose. Hopefully they will get back to me tomorrow. i'll keep you informed on what happens

Thanks for the advice, gorgeous guineas got back to me straight away with some really useful advice. i have ordered some lotion from them which will hopefully sort the problem out and make him smell really yummy.

The bald patch doesn't seem to be affecting him though which is really good, he and Nigel have been popcorning for the last half hour!

The other Guinea Pig (Nigel) seems to have a problem with his right eye now, it looks slightly swollen and isn't open wuite as wide as the left. Could this be something to do with Gizmo's fungal infection?

Thanks

oh my! that sounds EXACTLY like one of my babies

(see thread my baby has suspected ringworm.... http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=31820 ) I have pics on..

His started with a tiny weeny bald patch, vet said ringworm (i had taken him originally for snuffles and sneezes) and started him on treatment and then his eyes got infected..and he needed eye drops, he now has a severe chest infection (although i think this is what the snuffles may have been in the first place) and is on antibiotics too! poor little thing..

Hope Gizmo and Nigel feel better soon, but I would take them to the vets. x
