Just spent a small fortune on the hairy guinea pigs! The fleece and towels are not working out so we just bought carefresh bedding. We've had a few sawdusts now with crawlies in (i thought it was just hay:)>>>) so have decided to try them with this instead. Along with their food we spent £40 as we have 7 hairies and 2 skinnies. (skinnies are still on soft towels as their not as messy.) Anyone else getting bankrupt buy their babies?:(|)

I was using vetbed but couldnt be doing with the washing so went back to newspaper. so cheap, but with the mites problem it is costing a small fotune but they are worth every penny. do towels work? what else do you use with them?

We use newspaper underneath towels for the skinnies who then have either old jumpers or fleece to make nests and a furry pigloo and a pyramid cat bed.

and the hairys had newspaper with either fleece or towels over the top. We could'nt use layers of vet bed and inco pads etc as we have 7 cages so we could not afford it. I just hope to god this bedding has'nt got crawlies in. Its so annoying that something they HAVE to have causes so many problems. We have to do the hay in the microwave for 1 min in a microwavable bag to get rid of hay mites as wellrolleyesits worth it though, as well as that we are using lice'n'easy and ivomec:)

lets hope that kills the :(|)

ok thats cool :) i take it the skinnies live together :))

i just use newspaper nothing else much cheaper and easy to clean out.
what sort of bags do you microwave it in? how much can you do at a time?

I'm also treating mites :( with beaphar spot on second treatment being dont this week they are cant see them!

I get food microwave bags. They are see through bags from supermarkets. Be careful when doing it as i guess it is a fire hazard. we do ours on the 2nd highest setting for 45 secs to 1 min. you can get about 3 good sized handfuls in, it can take ages but it hopefully gets rid of the lice/mites or at least kills alot of them. the hay needs to cool a bit but the piggies love lying on it while its a bit warm:) Its bath time tonight for ours all 7 of themrolleyes:(|)

yeah skinnies live together in a huge cage almost as long as our bed! they have to have one that big as they have so much stuff like two big beds:)) i know this because its next to our bed :)) and sexy and cesar live in the same cage the same size as the skinnies.

ok i might try that dont think it is the hay but still, need industrial size microwaves to put the whole bag in lol :))

bath time sounds fun i shall do that next weekend i think. the fun :p

do we have pigtures? x

they always skint me out! had to get gp spayed and that was £70 which left me with £60 for the rest of the month!

With my longhaired boy I use just newspaper and hay but I find care fresh much better than sawdust with my longhaired hammy
