Sorry for a fairly graphic post about boar bits!

My guinea pig Six has a bald patch around his testicles and on some gentle prodding, it feels like there is a small, hard, ball there (about half the size of a pea) - it is about 1cm away from his penis. I've been watching him closely and he's weeing fine and doesn't seem to be in any discomfort, but could it be a bladder stone? I've wondered if he's been pulling the hair out because he IS in pain and he's uncomfortable? I've booked him into the vets for Friday, but does he need to go sooner?

Do you have a picture of the affected area?

A bladder stone shouldn't pop out and be visible.

As long as the lump isn't on the actual penis itself I wouldn't panic.

You could pop him along to the vet when you are next able to, for peace of mind.

Keep an eye on his weight and appetite too x

If he is acting normally. Eating, peeing, pooping, drinking normally and not losing a lot of weight then I would say Friday for a vets visit would be fine but keep an eye on him in the meantime incase things change.

The vet should be able to have a close look at the hair to see if the hair shafts are broken (from him barbering himself) or whether he's balding there. I had this when one of my old pigs when bald down below and she was doing it to herself out of discomfort from ovarian cysts.

Ok, so... I managed to get him to the vet this morning to see the nurse as I was worried about him, and when I was booking in had to tell the receptionist 'he's got a bald patch on his testicles' which obviously resulted in a bit of a titter, then I got him to the vet and the bald patch couldn't be found and the 'lump' was his urethra - super embarrassing! At least it was the nurse so it was free!

At least it was free! But peace of mind is worth the charge anyway!
