Small lump on guinea back

Hi my guinea has this small hard lump on his back. There’s only one. He’s fine in himself and not in pain, doesn’t mind us touching it. Close up as you can see in the pic it almost looks like scab? But doesn’t feel it. Hard to separate his fur enough to see clearly.
What could it be?

Hello and welcome. It is always worth having any lump checked out by a vet as it could be anything ranging from a harmless fatty lump to a cyst to an abscess.

I've just had two lumps biopsied for my boar. Thankfully they're just fatty lumps but I'm so glad I had them checked out
 
:agr: It is always worth getting lumps checked by the vet for proper diagnosis.
 
:agr: too. Christian had a lump that turned out to be a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE abcsess that needed to be removed where as Betsy just has a couple of fatty lumps. Always worth getting lumps checked out.
 
See a vet - it’s always better to be reassured that there’s nothing to worry about than leave a potential issue that could be easily dealt with.

Hello so after this it turned into a little scab the next day and then we noticed he was thinning on one side.
Pretty sure it’s mites so got some treatment and the spots gone and his hair is growing back.
Is there anything we can do to prevent a recurrence of mites?

My fiances female guinea pig had a few lumps that were just fatty cysts. Hopefully your pigs will be that
 
You would need to go to a vets to get a proper diagnosis for anything. Mites are more prone to occur when a piggies immune system is lowered due to another illness. Mites also generally require 2-3 treatments to ensure all mites that might have hatched since the last treatment are killed. It's worth noting that many shop shelf products are not generally strong enough to cure an infestation and can cause resistance to treatment in future
