Has anyone used small pets holiday home in Sandbach? I've booked the boys in for 10 days while we're on holiday in a couple of weeks. They have great reviews and seem to really care but I'm going to miss my fur babies so much. Is there anything I need to make sure I tell them? Has anyone used boarding facilities before? How do I trust someone I've never met to take care of my little fluff bears? I thought I'd be OK with this but it's making me really nervous.

No, I haven’t used them. Mine go to Booboos Bunny Hotel in Congleton (who’ve been using for years and can’t recommend highly enough).

I’d give them as much information as possible about your piggies, their age, likes, dislikes, health issues past and present, who’s the boss and any particular quirks they may have… I do that on a typed sheet next to each piggy’s photo so there’s no chance of mistaking which piggy the information belongs to. Plus I give details of how much I feed in terms of pellets and veggies and how many times a day and any medication they need etc.

I give details of my vets, and contact phone numbers in case they need to speak to you if they suspect an issue. I also alert my vets that I’m going away in case someone from the boarding business needs to speak to them or needs to take one of the piggies in on my account (it’s happened once that one did have to go the vets while I was away).

It’s natural to feel anxious about leaving your fur babes with someone new. Most places will send you daily photo or video via WhatsApp if you ask, but try to enjoy your time away and look forward to seeing them again on your return.

Our boys have just had a long weekend away boarding. It felt very strange dropping them off with someone we didn’t know. I had asked a lot of questions in advance, and the person we left them with was lovely about answering all my questions, and putting me at ease. We had to fill in a form with each piggies details, and provide our own pellets. I did send the boys with some fleece scraps that had been in their cage for a few days previously so they had a familiar smell. I also used the fleece scraps in their cage when we got home, for a couple of days.
They did seem a bit grumpy first night back with us, as if telling us off!
We were sent an email update every day, occasionally 2, and photos. I think my OH struggled with leaving the boys more than me.

Hope you have a lovely holiday.

The fleece scraps is a great idea. I didn't think of that!

I just dropped the boys off. I'm not impressed the lovely shed area with attached run that I had seen on the website is apparently for rabbits and the Guinea pigs get tiny hutches in a shed. The hutch they were put in can't have been bigger than 1x3ft. There are also female Guinea pigs in the same shed as them. And I'm so worried that it could ruin their bond. It's too late for me to make other arrangements for them but I'm so anxious and feel like the worst pet parent ever.

That is very poor indeed. Could you try another boarding establishment? I really rate Booboos in Congleton. Chris and Bev run it and are fabulous with guinea pigs and have large hutches. If you gave them a call you might be able to get them in as a late booking? Welcome to a very special hotel for bunnies and guinea pigs!

My mum's cars broke so it was a nightmare just to get them to Sandbach and there really isn't time to be moving them now.

I’m sorry it’s not what you expected. Hopefully they will be okay.
