Ok a little background... Freddie is a runt who when we got him was 388g. He is steadily gaining weight and is now 1’118g. He is healthy and happy and went for a check up at the start of the month as he was having small pointed poops. The vet checked him all over, teeth, belly, weight, feet, coat, bottom and temperature and found nothing. She said he’s healthy and happy and to keep an eye and if he drops weight to bring him back.
I started weighing every day and eventually went back to once a week. The poops improved and no problems... then in the last week or so, more tiny poops! He’s not lost weight and seems fine but I’m worried. Some are really really small and some are sort of hourglass shaped. 99% are fine but I’m not sure if I need to be worried. He is still excited over his hay every morning (alfalfa king Timothy hay), eats his nuggets as normal (mint burgess ones) and mixed veggies every night. The vet did say keep an eye on his fibre intake so I’m wondering if I should buy some fibreplex but hubs is concerned as it wasn’t prescribed. I’ve never had to use anything like this before but then I am more knowledgeable about pigs than I used to be. Any advice and experience with fibreplex is really appreciated! For reference, I live in the uk so some American brands are impossible to come by but I have found fibreplex on a few sites. Thanks in advance everyone! :ple: please help! Has your vet checked for impaction, bladder stones or mild bloat?
Caring for an ill Guinea Pig

You may try to take him off fresh food for a day or two and see how that goes. A course of fibreplex may also help to help steady the guts. As long as he is not losing lots of weight, it is not serious. He is a very good weight for a boar anyway!

She said he wasn’t bloated but she didn’t do any X-rays etc. Since I posted this the poos are normal again! I think he likes to worry me! I check his bottom daily and all seems fine. He didn’t have a temperature. I’m just wondering if I should take him back again but like you said, he’s not losing any weight... in fact he gains every week so I don’t want to stress him out if it’s unnecessary! Just not sure what is best.

As it is only minor and nothing has been found in a previous check, I would just keep it under observation for now.

Thank you for your help. I have ordered some fibreplex to have in just in case. Thanks again x
